BE it enacted by the King's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :-
1.-(i) As from the fifteenth day of August, nineteen hundred The new and forty-seven, two independent Dominions shall be set up in Dominions. India, to be known respectively as India and Pakistan.
The partition of India led to the largest mass migration and population exchange across land in history wherein migrating people encountered grave difficulty and danger while exploring options for their and their families' futures.
A large number of Muslims living in India explored Pakistan as a new home and migrated to Pakistan. Some Muslims were forced to flee and others were killed due to the effects of the partition.
Most of the Hindus living in Pakistan were displaced and forced to flee to India. The exchange of Hindus and Muslims between the two countries led to violent and fierce encounters.
Massacres and blood shed occurred daily in States like Punjab and Bengal. The partition’s impact created horrific destruction, riots and devastated both India and Pakistan.
